Sears Integrated Business Center
Hoffman Estates, Illinois
When Sears Integrated Business decided to relocate their headquarters from the iconic Sears Tower, in the center of Chicago's business district, to a suburban corporate campus in Hoffman Estates, the goal was to return to what they had viewed as their "pre-tower" corporate culture; a much less hierarchical setting with the goal of achieving a high level of interaction, collaboration and communication. A more casual environment, the client believed, better described the values of the organization and more closely fit Sears' employee and customer values.
For Sears' facilities group, a corporate campus setting not only lowered the cost of having to go outside their facility for conferencing and meeting space, but also increased communication within and between departments. This approach also provided Sears the ability to enhance effectiveness within the workplace while using their facility as marketing and recruiting tools. In addition, Perkins+Will developed planning strategies for the campus to support future expansion and compression of space requirements over the life of the buildings.
