Perkins+Will conducted feasibility studies of upgrading a dated office building in a historic area. Options included refurbishing the new building utilising the existing structure and complete new build. There was heavy emphasis on achieving optimal area efficiency balanced with sensitive exterior facade treatment in keeping with the local historic character. The final new build proposal looked to sympathetically develop the local aesthetic with use of traditional faience cladding in a traditional geometry; whilst maintaining the sense of scale along the street through stepped terraces on the upper floors and a curving street façade, minimizing it’s presence along New Bridge Street.
