Pringle Brandon Perkins+Will received two awards at the 2013 British Council for Offices (BCO) ceremony for its work on The Crystal – A Sustainable Cities Initiative by Siemens and Astellas Pharma Europe Ltd. (APEL). The BCO awards highlight excellence in office space design and functionality. The Crystal received the BCO’s Innovation Award, which recognizes significant innovation in fields including sustainability, information and communications technology, lighting procurement, mixed use and regeneration.
The Crystal is a uniquely shaped, glass-clad facility situated on the waterfront of the Royal Victoria Docks in East London, serving as a conference center, urban dialogue platform, and technology and innovation center. The facility houses the world’s largest exhibition on the future of cities and is an interactive hub for dialogue on sustainable urban living and development. The facility uses solar power, ground source heat pumps and energy-efficient LED lighting.
“We’re thrilled that the project has been recognized in these awards,” said Chris Brandon, Managing Principal at Pringle Brandon Perkins+Will. “The end result is a unique global hub dedicated to sustainable urban living, itself achieving the highest sustainable credentials.”
The Astellas Pharma Europe Ltd. project received the BCO’s best “Fit-out of Workplace” award. APEL, the European headquarters of Tokyo-based Astellas Pharma Inc., is a 100,000 square foot office plan that has been recognized for its outstanding design and open plan workspace.
“We are delighted to see APEL’s offices receive one of the most prestigious industry accolades,” said Linzi Cassels, Principal at Pringle Brandon Perkins+Will. “The design has really supported the culture of the business, creating a connected and communicative working space, and has engendered a sense of pride amongst staff.”
