Hotel Porto Maravilha is located in the old port neighborhood of downtown Rio de Janeiro, an area in the midst of a massive urban transformation as the city prepares for the 2016 Olympic Games. The historic urban fabric will merge with buildings designed by globally recognized architecture firms to create a balanced modern city, prepared to entertain a global audience.
An anchor for its neighborhood, the Hotel Porto Maravilha is blocks from the waterfront, as well as a proposed revitalization of an existing linear park – Parque Madureira. The exterior of the building uses classic elements of Brazilian modernist architecture – Brise-soleil, perforated block and architectural concrete. These architectural elements were then translated into contemporary materials and technologies to improve efficiency and durability in the tropical location. The façade is comprised of vertical fiberboard panels and glass, unifying different internal uses, as an oversized mosaic that dissolves towards the sky.
The Interior design brings a chic Brazilian feel to the property. Mid-twentieth century architectural details and furnishings, as well as musical references such as Bossa Nova and Samba, provide cultural ambiance. The hotel restaurant is contemporary, utilizing floor to ceiling glass windows and sheer window treatments to reveal the surrounding views of the Rio. The 225 guestrooms and suites offer a fresh modern feeling. Presenting a subtle color palette of warm white, beige and grey, accompanied by natural materials and streamlined accessories. The blend of local vernacular and modern amenities give guests, international and domestic, the opportunity to immerse in about Brazilian culture, while at the same time enjoying a high-end hospitality experience.
