The Los Angeles office of Perkins+Will was recently honored by the Society for College and University Planning’s (SCUP) with the organization’s Excellence in Architecture - New Building award. The Los Angeles team won the award for the Student Services Building at Modesto Junior College.
Located in the heart of California’s Central Valley, the new student services building is 19,650 square feet and consolidates a variety of existing programs including admissions, records, evaluations, counseling, and disabled student assistance into one area. Nestled within a grove of trees at the campus entry, the two-story U-shaped building frames a central lobby while a celebratory canopy captures another 6,500 square feet of exterior space, protecting students and visitors and ushering them into the double-height lobby.
Winners of SCUP’s 2014 awards will be presented at SCUP-49, the annual international conference in Pittsburgh, PA on Monday, July 14. The SCUP jury will discuss their observations from this year’s submittals, which projects were deemed “excellent”, best practices and the challenges the lie ahead for higher education.
